What makes all of the plays performed by Crabpot Players exceptional is not just the quality of the actors on stage, but their radiant passion, and the Players’ most recent performance, Miracle of 34th Street, was a perfect example of this.

Crabpot Players have been providing the Isle of Palms and surrounding towns with some incredible theater over the past few years, plucking talent from the island population as selectively as an oenophile chooses his wine. Recently, however, this beloved local theater company has begun taking it a step further by offering a chance for aspiring young actors to learn from some of the best with a summer theater camp at the Isle of Palms Recreation Center.

As the gently rising lights indicate the breaking of dawn over rolling hills, farmland and a proper country barn, the chatter of birds and the soft sounds of animals can be heard for the three-tiered wings. The small stage at the Isle of Palms Recreation Center has been transformed into the Arable Farm, and the farm animals can’t wait to tell you the story of a miraculous pig and his journey to long life and the County Fair.

"Charlotte's Web" is coming to the Isle of Palms next week. E.B. White's classic story is a tale of a pig named Wilbur and the spider named Charlotte who is determined to save Wilbur from ending up on the dinner table.

The Crabpot Players are in full rehearsal swing at the Isle of Palms Recreation Center. Every week, Monday – Thursday from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., the acting troop of 40 practice for what is going to be one of the most spectacular performances put on by the Crabpot Players to date.

The set is simple. A few chairs, some tables, a ladder or two, and a blank slate background. As the play opens, the stage manager quietly walks out onto the stage and arranges a few pieces of furniture before informing the audience that they are in the town of Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire, just before dawn on May 7, 1901.

Produced by The Crabpot Players in conjunction with the Isle of Palms Recreation Department, “The Wizard of Oz” production tells the story of Dorothy and her new friends’ adventure as they “follow the yellow brick road” to the Emerald City to meet the Wizard of Oz.

A participant in theatre at Atlantic Christian College in North Carolina, Ward started the performances initially at the Windjammer on the Isle of Palms. He later moved his performances to the fine arts building in Mount Pleasant.
